Be healthier this Christmas

We tend to let ourselves enjoy Christmas to the fullest (and there is nothing wrong with that!) but that also means stuffing our tummies with festive treats. So, by the time the New Year is upon us and we return to our daily grind (meh, how boring!) it’s not a huge surprise at all to find that we have gained a bit of weight. We then try really hard to stick to our New Year resolution (we’ve all been there!) where we promise ourselves to start going to the gym but it never works out because we can’t find the time or just can’t summon our strength to commit to routine exercise.

Wouldn’t it be better to enjoy all the festivities and come out on the other side without any impact on your health or waistline?

Our top 5 tips for you this Christmas:

  1. DON’T STRESS
We know there is a lot going on in our lives, especially around Christmas time! Those projects at work that need completing before the festivities start or the shopping that is still on your to-do list and we are not even mentioning the gift hunting and wrapping (gosh, I need me some mulled wine!). All of this quickly adds to stress and we all know when it comes to our health, stress is the worst! Try to remember that living in the present moment and enjoying the process is what matters the most. Sure, some things may not go to plan, but that’s ok! Nothing is ever perfect! So, don’t stress if you overcook your turkey or spill that expensive wine! Smile and remember that our live is precious and every moment counts! Enjoy it with your family and friends!

  2. BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED
Christmas shopping tends to get a little crazy and it is tempting to get as much food and snacks as one can fit into a fridge. But in most cases, this ends in overprovisioning and overeating which results in everything from unnecessary leftovers and wasted food to indigestion and a feeling of guilt. Be smarter, buy only what you will actually consume and try not to go overboard with unhealthy choices.

  3. EAT AS MANY VEGGIES AND FRUITS AS POSSIBLE
Try to balance your intake with at least 50/50 ratio of veggies/fruits and the rest of whatever unhealthy food you are planning to consume. Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, beans, avocados, oranges and bananas are amongst the healthiest.

  4. SHAKE IT OFF
Crank the volume all the way up and shake it to your favourite Christmas song! Haven’t got the moves? You can also go for a quick walk in the park or visit your local Christmas market.

  5. LIMIT YOUR BOOZE INTAKE
We all know how handy alcohol can be during festive season but try to minimise the daily intake as those units can quickly mount up. Healthy intake of alcohol is the best way to go this Christmas!

Stay healthy and have a happy festive season!
